Dan Backslide is the main antagonist of the 1942 Merrie Melodies cartoon The Dover Boys. He is a parody of Dan Baxter from the Rover Boys book series. Known as a "coward, bully, cad and thief" and possessing a pale, sickly green complexion, he despises Tom, Dick and Larry (a.k.a. the Dover boys). He is smitten with "Dainty" Dora Standpipe and wants to marry her for her father's money. He often tries to steal her from the Dover Boys, and he often carries her picture with him.
